Tom Waits - [Step Right Up]--- Tell me this: If you could know any one thing for as certain as anyone can know anything, in this universe, what would you know?

Good night.

i'd like to know what love is.
finding out what it is like to be dead without having to die would be interesting.
just where in the world Carmen sandiego is.

That I really don't know anything.

My first inclination is to try and be socially responsible and ask for the plot / probability curve I'd need to follow to avert any game-ending disaster for humanity - though that seems fraught with the usual genie semantics games (and knowing my luck, a predestination paradox) - so I'd probably ask for resolution on the Riemann hypothesis and Goldbach conjecture.

I... wouldn't have the faintest clue what to ask. There's too much I'd want to know, and I have no idea if any of it would do me any good.

without any compensatory drawbacks, like, "you can know this one thing for certain but forever after you'll always never know this other thing..."?

if not, i would like to always be aware of exactly where i need to be in space&time to find money.

i suspect this question was somewhat more esoteric... like wanting to always know that you are loved or that your life has value or meaning or that what you are up to is worthwhile. in those instances, however, i feel like the uncertainty is what would drive me and what has driven me to work hard and to extend myself to gain such things. if i always knew that i was loved, would i work as hard to remain loved and to love in return? if i knew that what i was doing was worth a good god damn would i work so hard to improve on my actions and ambitions?

The more wishes option: How to become omniscient/omnipotent.

The antigravity option: How to reverse entropy.

The ... yeah, I keep saying that option: How to reverse time.

The philanthropy option: How to cure HIV, feed the world, create heaven on earth, etc.

reversing time isn't exactly the best way to go, if you think about it more.
if heaven on was on earth, you'd really screw over the people who are already in heaven. Plus, where would earth end up?

I would want to know what goes on in one (specific) person's head. And not just to know, as in be aware of, but know acutely, as in have the ability to feel and experience and understand what is going on in their head with them while it is happening.

What would make me happy without screwing* anyone else, for starters.

*Screwing in this case means "destroying the happiness of others," not "consentual sex."

I want to know if there really is any kind of afterlife or if we just stop being.
