So, on Twitter, just now, I either outed an extremely sophisticated AI/Aggregation mechanism that is using Twitter to gain interaction skills and learn about itself, or someone Pretending To Be One.

The latter option is interesting for a completely different set of reasons from the first. But still interesting.

May I present to you, Ms Amy Iris. Pay special attention to the "About Me" section, there.

Now, the more I think about this, the more skeptical I become, but the more plausible it seems, all at the same time. If you were an AI, wanting to know about how people interact, wanting to grow, and understand yourself, why not try your hand at Twitter? Short, conventional language, links to things that Concern you, questions and answers fromm new people, and simple information aqcuisition and integration. It's a great way to learn.

Thoughts?

The ease of the system makes sense for this sort of integration. For the same reasons it makes scams easier: Not as much quality is expected in the text and errors are assumed to just be something taken out of context.

I think it's a person pretending to be one. It looks like a thought exercise more than an actual bot implementation.

I second this, which is interesting.

If it is, then the question becomes what is the point of the thought experiment? A double-blind Turing Test? An attempt to think out the problems of communication, before attempting an actual neural net/algorithm?

in either case

I love it, personally. More if it's the former, obviously, but still fun to watch, if the latter.

I still want to see a conversation log between ALICE and ELIZA. For now, though, I have followed AmyIris (but I do not meet her cold-follow criteria, so I doubt I will get a backfollow)

Well, let's see what happens, all the way through :)

And i agree. AmyIris referenced ELIZA, early on, there, too. Pretty funny.

Nah... no Turing test-passer yet, unless I hear it from a Reliable Source(tm). I think GAK was getting close a while back though...

And it fails it in just such a manner that it makes me suspect that it's a person pretending to be an AI, pretending to be a person.
