Theses, Thanks, and Thoughts
Nov. 30th, 2008 02:47 pmI just sent Thank-You Letters to both Drs. Robert Almeder and Douglas Hofstadter, for their help and inspiration in my thesis.
I also expressed the following sentiment, to both: "I also understand that we are not always comfortable with the association of those who claim to have been inspired by us and, if that is the case, in this instance, I am truly sorry."
I mean, Nietzsche wouldn't have been exactly Thrilled to know that he inspired Hitler.
Also recommeded, again, that Hofstadter read House of Leaves. The recursion of him not knowing it existed, when I told him about it, struck me, again, today, re-reading the introduction. Too good to pass up.
There. I felt like I needed to do that; to say thank you and let them know.
