Teaching Statement/Philosophy:
Jul. 17th, 2008 03:16 pmMy "teaching philosophy should be, "I am a philosopher. I enjoy teaching and think that it is extremely important. Tell me, then, why I need a "teaching philosophy" beyond that."
Instead it's a much longer and more... I can't even think of the word. Means trite, shallow, over-blown, puffed-up. It's the surface of a balloon that, when popped, may release hot air, or may transport you somewhere rich and full of meaning and import. But all you can see, right now, is that it's a fucking balloon.
That metaphor kind of got away from me. Basically, my teaching philosophy is best expounded through teaching, and by saying, "You need to understand the world, if you are to make it work, for you. My job is to help you do that."
*sigh*
