Covenant - [Cryotank Expansion: Dawn/Noon/Dusk/Night]--- I just received the following in an email, and I figured that there would be at least some of you who would be interested. You need to talk about badge compensation, at the very least, though.

'The Institute for Comic Studies and the Comics and Pop Art division of
Dragon*Con are working together to develop an academic conference for
the studies of comics and pop art to take place at Dragon-Con. This
year, we're planning 3-4 panel presentations of academic work with 2-4
scholars at each panel. Next year, I hope that we can organize a
full-fledged academic conference like the Comic Arts Conference at San
Diego Comic-Con and WonderCon. The Institute for Comic Studies is
trying to organize a number of such conferences in concert with Comics
and Pop Arts conventions around the country.

'I'm looking for proposals for 20 minute presentations which engage in
substantial scholarly examinations of comic books, graphic novels and
pop art. A broad range of disciplinary and theoretical perspectives
are being sought, including such literary and art criticism,
philosophy, linguistics, history, and communication. Proposals may
range from discussions of the nature of the comics medium, analyses of
particular works and authors, discussions of the visual language of
comics, to comics pedagogy, the physics of superheroes, and more.
Please submit a title and abstract (100-200 words) to
[redacted] by July 25th with the subject-line "ICS: Dragon*Con
Proposal". Since space is extremely limited, and I would like to get
things nailed down sooner rather than later, earlier submission
increases the likelihood of acceptance.

'Dragon*Con, according to their website, is the largest multi-media,
popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy,
gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US. It takes
place on Labor Day weekend (Aug 29-Sept 1) at the Hyatt Regency,
Marriott Marquis and the Hilton hotels in downtown Atlanta.
Dragon*Con is a unique, fun, and intriguing experience.

'Best,
Matthew Brown
UCSD Philosophy'

I redacted his e-mail address. If you're serious about this, e-mail me, or message me, here, and I'll get the address to you.

I could probably do a 20 minute presentation on the ethical, metaphysical, and epistemological issues raised by Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, and Grant Morrison (the latter being the true epistemic questioner; What do we know, and how do we know it?), but what kind of references and resources do they want? Because, I don't really feel like doing that kind of research, right now, and I don't have any existing work on it.

But think about this, for a title: 'Biotechnological Ethics, as Approached in the Works of Warren Ellis: Questions and Procedures.'

Yeah?

Yeah.

Anyway. Just thought you'd like to know.

Well, Jennie Breeden will already be there anyway, and she's probably getting tired of telling people to succeed at webcomicking. I mean, she got a degree in sequential art, so she might have a clue and enjoy talking about the art form for a change.

But I don't particularly know her that well . . . or how to contact her.

Yeah, yeah. I'm picking up what you're putting down. Cheers.
