I would like you to do me a small favour, today [(now more appropriate for Tomorrow)], if you're able. It's a tiny thing, really, but I don't know that you'll want to do it.
But just give it a shot.
Say something. If you don't generally speak, for whatever reason, then anything at all, will do.
But say something.
When something's a terrible idea, and you know why, and you have a better one, say something.
If a policy is unfair, stupid, and unfounded, and you have thought of a way to make things work better, say something.
If there is something on your mind, something you don't say because oh god, what might people think? Say something.
That's really it, on this end. I just don't think you should sit and not say the things you want to say, need to say, because of some bullshit inter-office politics, and there arre enough of you, in enough positions to make a change.
Or maybe I'm just going insane.

Date: 2008-06-17 10:53 am (UTC)Ok I did.
Date: 2008-06-18 11:15 pm (UTC)I do the other kind of speaking up, every day. I am not shy about voicing a contrary opinion, because I believe it's my duty to do so. Politely, of course, but my work and my personal life are based on an open exchange of ideas where disagreement is common and not negative (probably cuz of I <3 philosophy...)
But I do not speak up about asking for help, and today I did, and thank you for the post. I'm not going to give it more credit than it's due and say it was the REASON I spoke up. But it was on my mind, and it was for sure ONE OF the reasons.
