and as for sounding off, I don't think it's such a bad thing to be vain and I'm tired of people implying that it is. I'd rather be vain than ugly. I'd also rather sometimes seem vapid than be all too-cool-for-school and cynical and miss the joy in small things.

I think there's a fine balance between vanity, vapidity, and cynicism. I think you can find the small joys, and still gather joy from "deeper" things.

well I also just bought 2 pairs of shoes. So that's a pair of pairs.

And anyway I totally can (and often do) talk about Kant and Hume and sometimes Nietzsche (but only when I'm trying to illustrate how bleak something is...). And biology. And math. And primate social psychology. And insurance. And politics. But sometimes I think it's just nicer to talk about and think about the easy stuff. Don't you think we have enough to worry about in our lives and sometimes our brains need a vacation? So I like to talk about fashion and decorating and TV, and what celebrities are wearing. And I like to laugh. Excuse me up and down for not wearing black and drinking coffee and wearing buddy holly glasses. I just think it's better to be pleasant.

Sorry but it's a touchy subject today. I have a hard time being called vain by a woman with a unibrow.

I've been productive! I've got 2 fully ready lessons for the next school year. And 10, count em, 10! sets of alphabet cards, both lower and upper case in each set. Go me, and being productive in advance. (we're trying to work on this procrastination thing so that I have even more free time to sit on my butt during the next semester).

(edit) and all of this pair talk is funny to me. I typically run in threes. Like, yeah, I have the standard pairs of things, eyes, boobs, ovaries, legs, and the like. But much of everything else in my life runs in threes. I have 3 cats, I have 3 bad injuries, I have 3 books I'm currently reading, I've had 3 cars, stuff like that. I have issues with even numbers :P
