i think the last thing America needs right now is a female president: no Asian leader will have any respect for a woman as president plus Hilary Clinton is probably only just out of her menopause I.E completely bat shit. you've already got a bat shit president, you don't need another.
(note to any offended feminists: i am a bisexual woman and i still think USA needs a woman as president about as much as it needs more McDonalds restaurants).
no Asian leader will have any respect for a woman as president
This bothers me. India, the Phillipines, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia have had female presidents in recent history. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and South Korea have had female PMs. The leader of Burma's government-in-exile is a woman.
I realize having female leaders doesn't mean they won't encounter sexism in the political arena, but clearly the people and parliaments of these countries took women seriously enough to elect them.
Personally, I prefer Obama over Clinton. But that doesn't justify the blatant and ill-informed sexism that has been directed at her. I don't know you or your beliefs, but there's no rule that says you can't be a bisexual woman and still sexist about some things.
Plus, the PRC has women on both the Standing Committee and the State Council.
Also, the Bush's Secretary of State, who does a lot of negotiation with these Asian countries, is a woman. As was Bill Clinton's Secretary of State. Not to mention that England didn't seem to get a ton of disrespect from Asian countries just because it was headed by Margaret Thatcher.
Anyway, Clinton is what, 60? She's probably 5-10 years past menopause, and has been doing a good job as a senator for that entire period.
you think 60 is 5-10 years past menopause? how many menopausal women do you know? menopause lasts 10-15 years on average and generally most people wouldn't even expect to start menopause until after their fifties in the UK, though i guess it would be lower on average in America what with all the poor diets and lack of aerobic exercise and everything. me saying she was probably just out of the menopause was me being kind, most likely she's in it full flow. though probably on hormone replacement therapy. mmmm lets all take medicine derived from the urine of pregnant mares who have to stand all day in cramped conditions unable to move or lie down with a bucket tied to their arse to collect their urine then their foals taken from them immediately and slaughtered. lovely. but i digress.
also how many women over sixty do you know? i know a lot (far too many in fact) and granted not all of them but most of them ARE completely bat shit, which, it turns out is a perfectly normal phenomenon due their new hormone make up preventing them from having anywhere near as much compassion or sympathy for other people as they had when at prime child rearing age. granted this can make some very mellow hence the dear old ladies we all love and idolise in soaps etc but unfortunatly most are more like surly teenagers, self righteous terrors lurching up and down streets whacking people with their walking sticks, lying in wait behind bushes then pouncing out on their zimmer frames yelling obscenities and/or mugging terrified children, playing loud television and music until four in the morning... ok maybe this just happens in the UK. your lady pensioners are all like the Golden Girls, yes?
re the sexism stuff, let me spell this out to you...
yes, the UK did have a female prime minister for many years. i lived through the entirety of that. in England. she wasn't that great a prime minister if you recall the falklands war and the poll tax riots, it was more novelty value than anything else, but she did put and end to the three day week and no she didn't appear to have any problems with the asian countries but back then there wasn't actually a problem with the asian countries as they didn't have any problems with the british at all right up til the americans decided to blame an internal conspiracy on the asians and then suddenly we went from practically being an asian country due to the asian countryfolk loving us and coming to live with us in droves, and us loving them, all peaceful harmony, to people getting blown to pieces on tube trains by suicide bombers.
have you really even thought about how women get treated in some asian countries? and how men there must view women in order to treat them worse than some people treat animals? yes? yet you still think the men in countries who treat women like dirt will have respect for a woman being president of the USA?
hilary clinton would make a great president, its not like she hasn't already had enough experience having been the backbone of bill clinton's presidency and the sole reason why he was the best president america seems to have had since i've been alive. she'd be great. hell if she was standing as prime minister candidate for england, she'd get my vote no hesitation.
but right now, considering how little respect america has round the world with asian countries and also that most of the countries george bush has managed to piss off have such an appalling attitude towards women anyway and no way will they listen to a woman or take orders from one, a male president would be better for the country. IMHO.
you are entitled to your own opinion, but i too am entitled to mine. try reading other people's comments carefully before blundering your way headlong into false accusations of sexism.
"wouldn't even expect to start menopause until after their fifties in the UK" should read: wouldn't even expect to start menopause until their fifties.
apologies for that. should have read the thing through before posting. if i'd known my comment would cause this much fuss i wouldn't have bothered posting one in the first place.
Kitts didn't accuse you of anything. I used the word "sexism" not to insult or offend you since, as I said, I don't know you or your beliefs. I was characterizing the nature of much of the mudslinging directed at Clinton, and pointing out that your defense against "offended feminists" was not particularly sturdy. Anyone can be a bigot, no matter their ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or nationality. It doesn't mean that you are one, only that being a bisexual female doesn't preclude you from being one. It was not a blunder, but a statement of fact.
I'm not going to represent myself as an expert on the subject, as there is still a lot I don't know, but I'm a student of international affairs, particularly in Asia. Based on what I've learned, your statements are more reflective of a lack of information and exposure to stereotype than any particular political reality. There are certainly women who are mistreated by men in myriad ways, in every country on earth. But it is unfair to paint an entire country, much less an entire continent with one brush.
I'm not going to fight the menopause/hormones fight with you, because the idea that women of any age have an emotional disposition that prevents them from thinking clearly or making good leaders is so antiquated that I can't really take it seriously. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think that we're just going to have to agree to disagree.
courtesy of wiki: "A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own."
i would say that pretty much covers everyone who jumped down my throat for having an opinion differing from the politically accepted norm. granted my first comment, the one which caused all the hassle, got mostly misunderstood but i put that down to (a) American lack of understanding of English humour, (b)my hormones were all over the place due to being on a particularly heavy period plus under a lot of stress, hence i wasn't able to communicate in a clear and concise way at the time. now may be a good time to reread point (a).
i agree that we are indeed going to have to agree to disagree seeing as how my opinion, lifestyle and identity are so completely alien to yours that yet again you have managed to fail completely to understand anything i have said ('tarring an entire country with the same brush' ... etc. not what i was implying at all. but that's just a quick example). the hint is in my LJ username, or do you need me to wiki that for you, too?
i also agree that, not being a student of international affairs, any opinion i have on anything even vaguely political would be vastly inferior to yours. but isn't that the point? you got it in a nutshell when you said "Based on what I've learned, your statements are more reflective of a lack of information and exposure to stereotype than any particular political reality." yes. they are. that accurately describes me and the majority of people on this planet. luckily we have outspoken people like you around to point out our inferiority when it comes to political knowledge and hopefully to stand up and make sure the planet runs smoothly with no problems, in our stead.
like it or not, people without the benefit of your college course tend to form their own opinions. including me. and however wrong they are, at least my opinions are original and based on information recieved during real life situations, media, listening to others etc and mulled over rather than based on what everyone else believes, what everyone else wants to hear and general people pleasing nonsense, like the majority of politics seems to be about. any international affairs student worth their salt would already know that opinions had by the little people, with their independent, often non-conforming minds, are worth something, if only as a sounding board. any who don't should perhaps study fine art instead.
Just out of menopause means that the wacky hormones have ended. All gone, no more, not coming back. Also, hormone craziness does not necessarily preclude a woman from thinking straight when neccessary.
If we're going to judge how good of a leader someone is by what their hormones do, men should never ever be leaders because their hormones have fluctuations ranging from days to hours.
Find a better argument that doesn't hinge on her gender.
If we're going to judge how good of a leader someone is by what their hormones do, men should never ever be leaders because their hormones have fluctuations ranging from days to hours.
oh yes, i agree with you. totally. but that wasn't what my comment was about. at all. see my reply to kitsuchan. actually see my reply to her regarding menopause too.
hormone craziness does not necessarily preclude a woman from thinking straight? ROFLMAO. yeah tell that to my fiance when i'm on a period. LOL.
Find a better argument that doesn't hinge on her gender. there's a crucial point you are missing here: i was not actually arguing. at all. i was just commenting. and i was the first person on here to make a comment, and as far as i was aware at no point was my comment disagreeing with anything in wolven's post. so it wasn't even an argument then. it was just my personal comment.
