I'm depressed about the state of my interpersonal relationships, mainly because I know I won't be able to do anything about it, until after I finish this damned thesis.

I can't spend a lot of time with you, if you don't live with me.

I can't talk to you online, a lot, because I'm reading, writing, or putting my head in order.

I can't engage you and rebuild our friendship, right now...

Because all of that takes time away from my thesis, and my goal of finishing graduate school this semester.

I hope you understand, and can be patient.

I have a few (stupendously precious) peeps with whom I can part for a year or more and still at any point pick up the phone to continue a conversation we were having back in the day. We all have this understanding, that our relationships are really no shit for life. No hard feelings if we don't talk for awhile, some of us have ridiculously complicated lives and not being part of someone's day to day is not as important as it used to seem now that some of us have families and other time consuming enterprises. The stories we get when we get down to: "So what have YOU been up to?" are always a treat.

If anyone understands that nasty bit of reality it's me. I hope it's some comfort to you to know someone out there has been through that and guess what! Your friends are waiting on the sidelines- the real ones are anyways. The rest? I refuse to regret knowing them, but am a little sorry they slipped away. If they're meant to be in your life, they'll return.
