To my mind, they were both visionaries seeking to create the wonders that they saw in the world, and of which they wanted to see more.
They were men of like minds, and different methods, each of whom could see the value and worth in the work of the other.
I also bet that Twain had wished Tesla'd had better luck and success, in his life...
