You know I can smell that, don't you?
Sep. 17th, 2007 06:24 pmIt's Fall. Autumn. The Burning Season. I can smell the very subtle process of decay, and sweat. Why sweat? Because it's still 80 degrees, regardless of the smell on the wind, and that just makes it more awesome.
Autumn is a very important time, for me. I can smell October creeping in, reminding me of every October that ever was. It's a wonderful smell. Chill and warm, fire and woodsmoke. Delicious things. I eat a lot more red meat, in autumn.
So. Just wanted to let you know. I can smell you.
And you smell delicious.
That is all.

You knew it was coming...
Date: 2007-09-17 10:42 pm (UTC)I distinctly recall walking outside on Saturday and thinking, "omg, this is what summer should be..." Because it was cool outside and wonderful, even at 3:00 in the afternoon.
To me, though, this isn't what I consider autumn. Growing up in Illinois and having a late September birthday always meant two things: Football and Autumn. Hated the football... but I always loved that it was cool outside, weather for wearing jackets all day, and orange leaves. That happens so late here that it's still sometimes strange to me. Fall starts too late in the south as far as I'm concerned. Even though I've been here for something like 11 years now.
It's too bad it's such a short season here in Georgia, along with Spring. Summer just takes too much time of the year.

Date: 2007-09-18 05:30 am (UTC)The sky is getting bluer, the chill in the air, the slight discoloration starting to form.
I wake up every morning, look up at my window, and wish that it was just a pane of glass that protects me from the wondrous cold. Besides, it's almost time for me to start baking pies again.
I have to ask though, is it just me or is fall a more contemplative season than all the rest?

Date: 2007-09-18 05:33 am (UTC)Very hard not to smoke, this time of year. The smell and taste of cigarette smoke on the fall air is something I've always loved.
I'll just have to subsist on the memories, i guess.
