"Kid Nation."
Sep. 15th, 2007 10:17 pmHuh. CBS has a new show: "Kid Nation".
Now, as a Horizons School alumnus and someone who read the issue of the Sandman "The Golden Boy," the very idea of this appeals to me, greatly, as does the ideal behind it.
I think it's a freaking wonderful way to teach responsibility, and whatnot.
I only wonder how the children were selected. CBS is a notoriously Christian-affiliated network, and that kind of grouping really skews results.
Still. Great fucking premise.

Date: 2007-09-16 02:31 am (UTC)People are going to get hurt, and if the parents didn't take that into account, then what kind of idealised version of community building did they have in mind? 18 hour days, and done quickly, or 8 hour days and the kids gone for two years.
I can understand their being upset, but it just doesn't seem like they put a lot of forethought into it.

Date: 2007-09-16 02:44 pm (UTC)This and "Survivorman" are the only important "reality" television shows, as far as I'm concerned. "Human Weapon" has a use, but only in helping people become aware of the various fighting styles, in the world, and choose one, for themselves...
But that's me. :)
