I was always suprised the you weren't into Emerson, Lake and Palmer, especially Brain Salad Surgery with its ridiculous Geiger cover art. The lyrics are certainly right up your alley, and the composition is very mature.

I've been slowly discovering Luke Doucet lately. He's very much an angry, whiskey drinking, folk artist. I reccomend his album, "Outlaws."

In addition, I think you would like some of the earlier Moody Blues, probably "Days of Future Passed."

Remind me as well, if I haven't already, I need to give you Jordan Zevon's first album.
