The bio page is an introductory section, innit? It's a "Getting to Know You" exercise, designed so that you don't have to tell people who you are, every day.

We jump in, here, talking about things, every damn day, and we're going on and on as if everyone who reads this knows what's up. And that may be the case, sure, but some of these people don't have any context, at all. You don't know what the fuck i mean, when i use certain phrases, or when I talk about things or places that mean something to me.

So. Here's what i would like to see happen. Take today, just one post today, and start over. Write as if it were your first entry on this open forum, and tell us who you are. What are you doing, here, and what do you hope to get out of it? Here. I'll Start:

Well, this looks like a pretty interesting place. I'm Damien, i'm 25, and I'm the Master's Program for Philosophy and Religious Studies. I'm orginally from Washington, DC, and I still merge parts of DC with parts of Atlanta, in my dreams. I walk fromm one corner to the next, and the cities are one place. Says a bit about my psychology.

I like psychology. My high school principal was a psychologist, and she taught me all kinds of wonderful things youu can learn from the observation of behaviour in individual and group dynamics. I know what people do the things they do, but I don't meta-understand. I understand their motivations, but I don't know why they think they're so important. It gets confusing. I'm a Jungian in terms of my psychological approach, in that I think that everything's real, in terms of the effective experience it gives to the experiencer. If you see a ghost, I don't ask you why you believe in unreal things, I ask you about what the ghost was wearing, what you were doing, and if you pissed it off. An experience cannot be "real" or "unreal." It is merely an experience, which, in its turn, can teach us something about ourselves, and how we engage the world.

I think that metaphysics, in general, and magical practices ("occult studies" as it were) in particular, have a lot to say to quantum mechanics, and vice versa, and that there is nothing unnatural, or supernatural that Exists.

My mother's a minister and a lawyer, my father's a system's engineer for the DoD. My mother was in undergrad, when she had me, and she taught me how to fight in my dreams. My father helped design the cooling system for a plasma cannon.

When I was eight, I looked at the shiny metal rivet on the shiny blue enamel back on the chair in which I was sitting, and I saw the infinite curvature of reflection, and I posited that in each of those reflections was another world, another me, all doing me-things, but different.

I've done questionable things (who hasn't) that would make many of you not want to know me, if you knew the details, and I've wanted to take back most of them, at some point (who doesn't), but right now, I appreciate where they've brought me.

This is, in part, me. Basic, 1010-level me. It gets more complicated, from here.

I'm glad to be here. Glad to meet you.

Im Sam. Im 30, in my never ending quest to get into grad school at the moment. I was born in raised in Atlanta, however Im a first generation Palestinian. Both my parents were immigrants. I spend a large amount of my grade school years being the foreign kid. Fez from that 70's show has nothing on me. Both my parents were raised Muslim. I was too, I lost my faith in organized religion when I was 14. I follow my own path now. Not all of it makes sense, but its my path and it makes me happy.

Ive been interested in many things over the years, and tried most of them. Ive traveled a bit and speak three languages. I have had a draw to various types of spiritualisms as I have gotten older and I draw from many places in my beliefs. I know its cliche, but the eclectic goth kid is me.

Some of the things Ive done in my past are best left there, however I dont ignore my past, but keep it in a place to remind me what I did so I have a guide of things to and not to do.

I tend to spend a lot of times reading, its an expensive habit, but one that is very fulfilling. I lose my self in those books because its what someone with a good imagination does. Then again one with an over active imagination will also contemplate the on coming zombie apocalypse that has become such a high point in pop culture. I tend to sometimes over analyze and over think, but Id rather be careful than not. I dont like brash decisions nor do I go out of my way to make them. But we do from time to time make them whether we want to or not.

I am a man of many talents. I tell most people I know that if there was ever a jack of all trades it would be me. I know a lot about a lot of things. From auto mechanics to land scaping, from leather working to plumbing. I do a bit of everything. I am on a quest to learn as much as I can in this life. It has nothing to do with being prepared to deal with zombie outbreaks or post apocalyptic fights against the machines. I just like to know things.

When it comes to philosophies on life I tend to go with the flow. I am not a huge stickler for anything particular, I am eclectic in that area too. Maybe it could be considered a cop out, but I do tend to weigh things before I take it or leave it in that sense. However I have a very low tolerance for stupidity. I know we are all subject to fits of it from time to time. But people who wallow in it, thrive on it, and try to spread it to others like a plague are the ones I do not tolerate.

I tell everyone this, try me, if you like me fine, if not, I dont care I will still be me no matter what.

Yay to be here, and yay to meet you.

Yeah, it's done, now, though. It's not too bad, actually, and makes a lot more sense in the ultimate storyline, mainly because they didn't drag that shit out over 20 damn years. Bendis summed it all up in about 5 months.

I will do this. I am refraining from posting in my LJ again until after my birthday. But this should be a good first post after I turn twenty-one.

I will. Just remind me or something.

I think it would be a wonderful Post-Birthday post, actually.

I'll make sure to remind you.

Hmm... Interesting idea, but shouldn't this be on the bio page? Otherwise it's only good for about a week or so until it's buried under newer posts.

My point is exactly that there are people who have been reading each other for a while, but who have no idea about each other's contexts. Unlike myself, most people don't go through and read the info pages of people they've already got friended.

I think a general re-introductory post is a pretty good plan, as anyone new in the next few weeks doesn't have to read back too far to know who you are.

If you were to also put it on the bio section? Would probably work pretty well. My only plan was to get people re-introduced to each other, and prepared to read each others' symbols.

Makes sense... It could also be used in a Sticky Post (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml#pgrouptext), if you think your journal's main page is more often viewed than your Bio page.

I agree it's a good idea and I'll be doing one myself, but for now sleep beckons.

Yeah, that's a good idea, too. I was just thinking about doing it every few years, and chronicling the differences in each round of introductions.

Sleep is good for you.

Whee, done. It is very rambly though.

Yeah, but it's still an introduction. So people can get to know you, a little better.
