The internet is, for the most part, full of people with nothing to do but make other people feel bad, so that they can feel good. There is such a high percentage of Asshole, in the internet, because no one has to look anyone in the eye. It's like constant prank phone calls. This is life, in miniature.

Your happiness is not Contingent on someone else's misery. It is not Necessary for someone else to be unhappy, such that you may be Happy.

Their misery is a Bonus. An occassional free gift, like getting bumped to first class, when you didn't ask for it, and didn't have to pay for it. If you go looking for it, it's not the same.

Schadenfreude that you have to cause, yourself? Indicative of further problems, and a certain level of pathos.

I woke up with the first lines of Rasputina's "Incident in a Medical Clinic" stuck in my head. Due to the dreams, mainly.
