Here's a shocker: Selfishness makes it harder for you to understand other people. When, if you were to, say, check the perspectives of others, and then gauge them against your own best interests, you'd be far better served.

Ah, whatever.

I call shenanigans on that study- it seems much more well-designed to look at spatial reasoning ability. I bet there were also higher rates of success among men than among women (men tend to display this ability more). A difference in education on this skill between cultures could easily account for this difference.

I hate mainstream reports on psychological research- they never include any info about confounding variables and everything is generalized to an extreme.

I'm more willing to call shenanigans on the Reportage of that study. I'd have to see the actual case-report, before judging the study, itself.

I do think that it can be said that, if you are in an environment where the primary concern is that of your own perspective and needs, then you will have a harder time relating to the perspectives and needs of others. That's almost tautological. But we don't have the means to judge if this study really makes that point, as well as it could.

The title of the article makes me think of Isabelle, murder baby, who got everything she want always and understands nothing of people, really.

But that might have more to do with the whole... being age 2 in a 21 year old's body.

Yeah. Not having the time to learn to relate, and then being given the perspective and prerogative of a young woman. Not a good plan.

Duh.

'Not thinking about others makes it hard to think about others.'

Makes me wonder why this shit gets funded, and why I don't have that funding, instead.

Precisely. But only if you connect it. It was that that made me make the post about the almost-tautological statements.
