I kept meaning to respond to the first post about this, especially since you're now just about in spitting distance of me.

My personal favorite bar in this area is The Angel located on Ponce next to the Decatur Post Office. It's very much a pub, so dark, lots of wood, no big TV with sports. I think they have a dartboard, but that's about it so it's perfect for talking and such as that's about all there is to do. The staff has always been excellent when I've been. Some have called it expensive, but it's about average for Decatur.

Java Monkey has probably already been mentioned.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for Trackside Tavern.

Hit mech_angel's post, and suggest these places. We've passed The Angel, before, and it looked pretty neat. Hmm...
