Dreams and links from Penny Arcade
Jul. 1st, 2007 10:50 amDreams were strange. Of a woman dying and replicating herself, amoeba-like, from a chasm. She was chased down by a man in a truck, and she was driving, but when they collided, her body was simultaneously pinned to the wall into which they had slammed and thrown into the gorge at the way side. She was carried by the man who had killed her into a basement that looked like the one in which she lived, but before the doors closed on the elevator stairs, she saw herself waking up, being tended to. When she woke up, with replicas/twins of her cat and dog she examined the place, and found the house she was in to be inhabited, and not half-finished like she was used to. She went about trying to extract herself from the situation, but on the way out, ran into the brother of the house. She simply acted as a friend of his sister's, leaving late. It became clear to her that she was in an alternate dimension, and she went about hiding herself in the basement catacombs. The moer she stayed, there, the more people took her as part of the family. Their perception of the world slowly integrated her, even though she always knew that she wasn't supposed to be there.
She had been a squatter, in her former life, and the guy in the truck kept saying something about needing her to cross over, to change things. There was also a section of dream where I was playing old videogame, like the first Super Mario Bros. and Galaga. At one point, a Metroid-like game got played, but with a race of Zergs that were purple, and looked like Eva 01's helmet. Playing it was living it, and running through an alien temple, for survival...
This article, found via Penny Arcade. It's kind of long, but I suggest reading all of it. It's very good:
'Hans Reiser is waiting for me, standing on the other side of an imitation-wood table. The room is small, the concrete walls bare. A guard locks the steel door from the outside. There is no sound. Reiser is wearing the red jumpsuit of a prisoner in solitary confinement, though he has been allowed to meet with me in this chilly visiting room. There was a time when he was known as a cantankerous but visionary open source programmer. His work was funded by the government; he was widely credited (and sometimes reviled) for rethinking the structure of the Linux operating system. Now he is known as prisoner BFP563.'
Absolutely fascinating article.
Went next door, last night, for dinner of sushi, and History Channel shows on cannibalism. Good times, all around.
I'm off for the breaking of my fast.
Ta.
