Ani DiFranco - [Seeing Eye Dog]--- These are mainly for my Atlanta/Decatur area friends, but you can feel free to answer more generally, if you like.

Do you enjoy late night wandering through metropolitan areas?

If yes, then what kinds of things do you look for in your wanderings?

What establishments have you found that are either A) Not Bars B) Not Coffee Houses Closing At One am and/or C) Found To Be Serving Live Music?

The Offspring - [Disclaimer]--- Have you found any coffeeshops that stay open, regularly, later than one?

Interpol - [Public Pervert]--- Have you found any non-diner-style, inexpensive, hole-in-the-wall-style restaurants, in the city?

If so, what and where are they, and what are their hours?

Were there to be more options of the above-mentioned type (Late night Vietnamese takeaway, or Authenic Chinese takeaway), would you frequent them?

Honestly?

Michael Andrews - [Carpathian Ridge]--- This series of questions brought to you by wandering around the city of Decatur, with [livejournal.com profile] mech_angel and [livejournal.com profile] lord_of_smoking, and conversations with [livejournal.com profile] hametsunosaturn.

Warren Zevon - [I'll Slow You Down]--- Your answers are much appreciated.

Dear? A weird request.

Please look up the name that the Native spirit calls Lou in the first trade of Lucifer, for me? I can't think of the name, Google's been useless, and it's bugging the hell out of me.

Atse'hashke.

It means, literally, "First Angry." It was the name of the Coyote who teaches humanity that they are not first.

This site has a good retelling. (http://www.meta-religion.com/World_Religions/Ancient_religions/North_america/navaho_cosmogony.htm)

I live about a 5 minute walk from downtown Decatur, so sometimes we get drunk and wander around there. There honestly isn't anywhere to go in particular. Decatur needs more fun nighttime places. We go to Saigon Cafe (my roommate calls it Viet Cong, as in she'll ask me to take her to The Viet Cong) which is near Blockbuster and Kroger. I'd probably like life a lot better if we could wander to some authentic Chinese takeaway at 2am. Alas.

So you would, if the options existed, take advantage thereof?

yes, of course. we're tired of telling people we spent our day "recovering from the night before" only to admit all we did the night before was eat popsicles and watch the neverending story.

Why can I never avoid requests for information, however vague or inapplicable?

I do enjoy late-night wandering through metropolitan areas.

In such wanderings, I look for places that offer unique perspectives. Piedmont Park at night, viewing the cityscape, is a visual example. Friend's basement (in high school) listening to whateverrock and philosophizing, is a mental example.

I do not remember any within {ABC}.

I do not remember any coffeeshops that stay open, regularly, later than one; will have to investigate the new one we just neighbored.

I have found non-diner inexpensive hole-in-the-wall-style restaraunts. Sadly, Rainbow is no longer a traditional restaraunt, but they still have of the good food in hot bar form. Mediterranean Cuisine, up College towards Avondale, is in fact excellent cheap food, although the appearance of both the place and the manager are a bit shoddy. Pyng Ho (next to Athens Pizza) is good food, I don't remember the prices, and service ranging from crap (when they want to close) to excellent (if the manager recognizes you). I can't remember any others off the top, but I'll be sure to alert you in such case. I don't think any of them go late, though.

... I don't think I'd want to frequent restaurants. I'm not sure, though. I'll have to figure out what that's on about.

It's not a matter of staying there, of hanging out: They are to be transient spaces. Spaces we pass through, pay our homage and leave to go somewhere Else. They sustain us, as a person holding a cup of water on the sidelines of a marathon.

They keep us going, and provide a space for us to work and act. In return, we give them patronage and a Name, and power. Others will visit.

Tons on Buford Highway... not so many elsewhere. The Walton St. Sandwich Shop downtown has yummy sandwiches, and is cheap. Paradise cafe near GSU also has good food- Korean bento and such. And there's lots of great little vegetarian South Indian places in Decatur, but they're out near North Dekalb Mall. But Atlanta proper lacks the holes in the wall, I think.

Yeah. None in the city, and very few of the ones you've mentioned have the capacity to remain open, late at night.

Rent in Downtown is just too damned high...
