Summer Classes or "I Can Haz Gnosis?"
Jun. 8th, 2007 10:24 pmAs most of you don't know, I'm taking New Testament Studies, this summer. I needed a class I could sleep through, if need be, so I can have my tuition covered while I work on my fucking thesis. 18 hours of classes, plus "research" for someone else, equals tuition waiver and stipend. Also, I'll get to look like a badass, which is an ego boost I could use, right about now. So NTS, Directed Readings (working on my thesis), and the research classes for which I have to register, in order to get paid.
Here are the books we're using:
The New Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha. College Edition
James Cone, A Black Theology of Liberation
Stephen L. Harris, The New Testament: A Student's Introduction
Elaine Pagels, Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas
James K.A. Smith, Who's Afraid of Postmodernism?: Taking Derrida, Lyotard, and Foucault to Church (The Church and Postmodern Culture)
Bought one and four, tonight. Still need to get the others, but I think they'll have to wait, until I get paid.
*sigh* So hungry.
