What is a spoiler, really? Bellow, you will find that I have described events in this film, not What happens, so much as how they happen. If you consider that a spoiler, don't read. If you don't, read it.

Robert Carlyle is a fine actor. I cared about him for the first five minutes of the movie, and then the pacing was so rushed that I didn't much care about anything or anyone else, until the Main Players got together, halfway through the movie. Too many thing were obviously poorly handled for a situation that was months in the planning. Seven Months in the planning, to be exact. Anyway, they handled a lot of things very poorly, but when it came to containment and disposal, they handled things very quickly. So that was... Okay. Not nearly enough people listening to each other, in ways that they should, and not enough communication, in general.

Too much was predictable while still being unbelieveable, in small, but irksome ways. Danny Boyle did not direct this one, and I think it kind of shows... Hm.

End potential spoilers.

I've often wondered, do they not have monster movies in the world of monster movies? Because everyone is very unprepared and surprised, quite often... Scream tried to tackle that issue, but really it was only in the slasher horror genre, and it was too *nudge nudge wink wink". Shaun of the Dead got some quirky laughs about not using "The Zed Word," and made some nods to "destroying the brain or removing the head," but there was no real undertaking of Lessons Learned.

All told, until it comes out on DVD, just watch Ravenous; it is the superior Robert-Carlyle-Eating-People-Movie.

[livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast would have found that hilarious, just now.

Ta.

i've said this before and, having lived near there i will have to say it again: the best thing they did in 28 days later was burn down Manchester.

Assuming at least a few of them read comic books, why aren't all the "goodguys" übermensch? They were superhuman, granted, but not to the degree I would imagine myself (or maybe he was a dragon...man...). I would expect Zion to have a "University of Creative Thought" well in place by now as a primary innerspace military development tool.

I'm also curious how alien contact will turn out.

Precisely. I want a Superman, a Spider-Man, three Batmans, two Green Lanterns, and a Wolvreine/Deadpool combination. Not to mention the fun to be had with fire, and Speedsters.
