'Police discovered five swords in the bedroom of a Clements High School senior whose home they searched after getting complaints about a 3-D computer “shoot-‘em-up” game map the student designed, which depicted a portion of the school.'

This is where we are, now... To paraphrase something [livejournal.com profile] comorbid said, how many of you know aspiring game designer, who've modeled a level on their school. If you know an aspiring designer, then the chances are you know one.

This is not good. Not good At All.

[From me, under the handle "Think Critically": 'Of course we don't have all the facts; we never do. We never get a full representation of the truth, via the various media. There is always spin.

'But the fact of the matter is this: A Young Man designed a game level, based on his school. For the various reasons noted here, this is not outrageous, or even unheard of; it is common practice, in every beginning design course.

'For this, having several (most likely replica) swords in his room, and various other factors that either "cannot be released," due to his being a minor, or for whatever other reason, he was removed from the school, and placed in an alternative et cetera.

'I question that A) we cannot hear more about this case, when they have obviously already discussed various personal facts of the case; where is the line? and B) this is not over-reaction on the part of people who do not understand the nature of the children under their care.

'We have not taken the time to recognise that our children are going to be far different than we understsand. We must not react at them, but seek to find their level, rather than demanding that they come to ours.']
