la dee fucking dah.
Dec. 31st, 2001 08:03 pmRight around four hours to the new year. Resolutions, anyone? i resolve to spend one day doing something extremely bad for my health, and not giving a shit what anyone else has to say about it. i can keep that resolution. i also resolve to be with the people i care about. Not more, not all the tyme. i simply resolve to be with them.
See, so many people make this whole big thing out of starting the year off on a new foot, and that's all well and good. But thinking about something a friend told me about multiple causation, i realise, more than ever, that it's silly to try and make that Broad sweep, and expect it to change, ultimately and completely. Tyme (and the human brain) doesn't generally work like that. There are so many factors of change, that are possible for the new year, that banking on any one of them is near enough to impossible as to make the thing futile.
Life is about a tangle of factors, all conspiring to get a goal, or series of goals, or what the fuck ever. The determination of the beginning of the year has to be tempered with Realism. Understand that ANYTHING could happen, between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, and that it may cause you to break your "resolution," though with the best of all intentions. It's a matter of hoping for the best, preparing for the worst, and simply doing like the Scouts told you and Being Prepared. And yeah, you COULD bank on a sure line of proabablity, throughout the year, and get consistent results, but let me tell you something: Looking into the future ALL DAY, and Manipulating probability, all the damn tyme, can give you one HUGE fucking headache.
Trust me.
