Anything that begins with the words "We Celebrate ______" is really trying to tell you that, "We think ______ is pretty okay, but we've got this NEW form of ______, from which we have removed the teeth, hair, testicles, ovaries, and claws. We think you'll love it."

And yes, the NY Times article is a more balanced coverage of the nature of the piece, but how many of you really think certain sites aren't going to start "Offering" these badges?
