6: How many times have you attended a church service at Christmas (if there are multiple times around the holiday, don't count more than 1 a year)?
7: Probably still the good ol' raven. Whatever.
8: Per usual, I reply here. I take umbrage at most viral thoughtforms, and certainly won't propagate them under my own name when they're so obvious. Subtler ones, like the quotability of Princess Bride, I can deal with. It's the difference between a cockroach crawling in your wall where you don't see it (or hear it, hopefully) and a cockroach walking across your kitchen floor, bold as brass.
Vellum has related to no fewer than three concepts that hadn't crossed my mind, ever, until a week or two before I read the book. Another such concept is the phrase "Et In Arcadia Ego" which, when it showed up, I realized I hadn't read it earlier in the book but in the short story anthology I was reading just before I started in on Vellum. Most likely it's just a product of the story's fragmentary style. The man seems to touch on everything he can, if only for a moment.
Re: Narcissus has awoken.
Date: 2007-04-07 05:06 am (UTC)And yeah, Vellum is good for that; he's trying to show all the intersections, and branchings pof thought, and how they're the same things, viewed differently. He does a damn fine job, I think.
