wolven7: (The Very Devil)

I've been thinking, a lot, about Exeter's MA in Western Esotericism, and the prospect of distance learning programs. Dr McClymond told me to check with the Study Abroad program, and see what they recommend.

A frustration: If I ask you to tell me what works for you, and you don't. That's kind of rude, and somewhat (Ta-daa!) frustrating.

I'm in a new mode, now, because if you look at the MA page, you'll see that Exeter is one of three European universities who offer the MA, including Amsterdam (no real shocker, there) and the Sorbonne. You know the one I mean; the one in Paris. What better way to give a giant Fuck You, complete with raised middle finger, to American Academia, which tries so hard to both emulate and surpass Europe, than to get a Master's in Esotericism from the motherfucking Sorbonne?

I want to stir shit up. I want to use the prestige of these universities to ask the questions of "Do you want to be behind this curve? Do you want people to under-estimate the knowledgableness of GSU's Philosophical and Religious Studies faculty and staff?" It's blatanly manipulative, I know, but.... I don't care. I'll do it. I'll do it as much as I need to, and I have enough people interested in this program to carry a bit of weight.

Who's with me?

I believe I am.

What exactly that entails I am not sure, but I support your efforts completely.

Mention this to people you know, who might be interested, in various departments: Psychology, biology, history, wherever. Mention it, in terms of how Interesting these European programs are getting, and wonder aloud if we'll ever see anything like it, here.

i'm somewhat comfused here... i'm with you on the whole getting the MA itself...

but i really have no idea what has you so frustrated about Sorbonne (i dont really know enough about this university to understand its importance here) are you trying to say that by getting the degree you prove to someone (us or them?) that GSU is either extremely up with things or extremely behind the curve... or is it that Dr. McClymond pointed you at yet another bureaucratic red herring without actually telling you if the MA was worthwhile or even applicable or a good idea...

i am however unprepared to get this degree in the next year and a half, as i believe "one thesis at a time" is going to be my creedo. if it helps, some guy on the religion_majors community announced he was going to get this degree as well since no one in the US was offering anything satisfactory or worthwhile. if you check my entry on programs (in the last week-or-so of entries) he should be there in the comments page.

The Sorbonne is a Good thing. It's one of the most well-respected Universities in the entire world, and it has this kind of program. This is leverage to be used to show how slow American acedemia is to catch up to the curve.

As far as Dr McClymond, she just mentioned something helpful.

So, are you thinking of dropping your GSU degree, postponing your gsu degree, doing this program after your gsu one, or doing both simultaneously? And what exactly do you want from this program, and what are you planning to do with either degree? I'm pretty curious, since I haven't really had a chance to talk with you about your studies since a very long time ago.

Not dropping anything. Doing them at the same time, most likely; finishing at GSU, first, then at Exeter.

I'm planning to teach, write, study, and expand the world's understaneding of these areas of study, such that esoterics (read: "weird shit") and magic will be accepted as an area of study, discourse, and practice.

Oh hells no...

Of course I don't support this. I already told you, the moment you break something, the things I see are going to spill over into the tangible world, and that's something we really don't want. And it's getting worse on both ends; my shadows are getting deeper, and I keep on meeting or finding out more and more people interested in breaking the walls.

I'm not going the Nny route, but... you saw what happened when he let the paint dry! You know what will happen when all of you simultaneously make your 'big discovery'! Why, why, why do you want the walls to break? I swear, the shadow government's disinformation project is one of the best ideas evarr, I don't care how sinister it sounds.

Umm... barring that, I hope you do well.
