"Trapping"
by Ger Killeen

Sometimes I recognize the trace,
but more often than not
it is a strange, unimagined spoor
which brightens under my fingers,
and the sounds, too, hanging
on the green dark, intimates beasts
far stranger than foxes,
moreimprobable than leopards.

Strange, too, that everything
can be used for bait-- the feet I chopped
from an old man, photographs, concepts
even, hovering like bits of mist
over the gleaming teeth of the trap
and the shining, vocative O of the trigger--
no need to conceal the instrument:
what comes will come.

As for the waiting, it might be hours
or years. It is best, perhaps, to place
oneself in an old house with clear views
from all the windows, and trophies
emblazoned on the walls. What comes
will come, and there will be a shaking
among the trees, and then, not a cry
but a deep silence. The teeth mesh and hold.

Again, Ger Killeen says what i'm feeling, and going through, and thinking. i'd like to meet this man. but anyway, this is nice. i'm not irate, or sad, or upset. Merely contemplative... it's nice...
