'Bush told Democrats in private that he empathizes with their anguish on Iraq, saying the war is "sapping our soul," according to two officials who attended the session. They spoke on condition of anonymity because it was a closed meeting.'

"Closed meeting"? Not likely. This was an intended display of politically engineered "bi-partisanship," so that everyone can see people playing nice.

Harumph.

In better news, Discovery Channel's "2057" has Michio Kaku in it. That is awesome.

And Democrats are going to spell it A-N-T-I.

-Administration, -war, -conservative, take your pick.

But everyone wants to not look the asshole, so we make nice, and both sides get the photo-op.

sure I would, there is no way that an impeachment investigation into Bush wouldn't dig up a pile of dirt on Cheney, if only a heap of inappropriate business connections. He'd be pretty much out by default.

Though I have no idea how Pelosi would work into the mix...

I'm hoping for a new century New Deal and a pile of reforms.
(and maybe a few hangings)

That's way too large a hope. And Cheney would do some major Damage in the interim, i=f the impeachement led to conviction.

It would need to happen Immediately, one after the other.

And it Could, sure, but... I'm not counting it likely.

why dream small?

The GOP is shifting back to a central/conservative platform in order to distance themselves from the Neo-cons, given how wildly unpopular the "surge" is as well as the $100 billion not-quite-accounted-in-budgets emergency funding even the last holdout rats are deserting the ship.

(i'll settle for a neutering of the overgrown executive branch and a trimming of the shrubs reach)
