So, Boost Mobile has GPS in their phones, now. Nike has an iPod adaptation that allows it count your steps and track your route. If you know what you're doing, you can track someone anywhere. GPS in cars, laptops, PDAs, now phones and shoes.

Am I the only one getting a little freakedout at the proliferation of tracking devices, to the general consuming public? The slow acclimation of the masses to everyone knowing where you are, all the time? I like the option, don't get me wrong, but the mandatory nature of these things is.... disturbing. In that "Lack of Faith" kind of way, if you know what I mean.

Just a thought.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would want all their friends to know where they are, all the time. That's creepy.

Ray Bradbury wrote a short story about this.

the main character is labeled with a social disorder after he sets off an EMP on a bus to silence his fellow citizens.

he says to his shrink that he just couldnt handle it anymore. he couldnt seem to go a day with his wife checking in on him every five minutes, his boss haranguing him every three minutes, his dishwasher and garbage disposal and phone talking to him about how he should act. everyone on the bus talking into their handsets and the portable music everywhere playing music he didnt like but couldnt avoid listening to.

i feel this way when i ride marta. i dont think we're very far from this.

it bothers me. deeply.

Shit, you can be tracked on your cellphone now, as things are. And if you can see your house with Google Earth, imagine what isn't declassified and available for public use, when it comes to satellite tech.

Precisely. It bugs the shit out of me, honestly. I don't like the idea of giving up that much privacy, for the sake of... Some perceived convenience, or whatever, you know?

Just bugs me.

Nice "bug" pun...

...which makes me wonder. Did you see this article about face-recognition software integrated with a search engine? Another creepy use of technology.

Yeah, I saw that one, in psasing, but hadn't had a chance to read it in depth, or follow up on it, yet.

So strange.

Oooh, hey, I saw that facial-recognition-search stuff when I went on the interview with the NSA. And the whole 'weapon recognition' thing that the computer in ... searching... damn. Bad zombie movie with Milla. Had a sequel. Four video games. Raccoon city. Umbrella Corporation. Resolve, dammit! Bother, over to IMDB... ahhh, Resident Evil, right.

That was over five years ago, now.

Does this mean they have to kill you now for revealing their secrets?

Nah, if he saw it in the Interview, it wasn't too secret to begin with.

Now if he talked about the bone-marrow distance identification progra--

Y'know now that I think of it, for all the technology that movies promise us in the future, the only one that keeps becoming more of an imitation of [at least] what I see is the technology that tells you who or where someone is.

On a lighter (although sill slightly distrurbing) note:
