Danny Elfman - [Veruca Salt]--- These lyrics. How would you interpret them?

I think I'm going to have to listen to a lot of Tool, today. And, by "a lot" I mean "all of it that I have and/or can borrow."

Hm. Beginning to end, though, or as it feels right, hoping one to the next? (DeathBoy - [AntiMatter]). Because they Are a progression.... Meh. I'll figure it out.

First, though, we start with the [livejournal.com profile] deathboy CD I whipped up. Ta.

I've always thought of "this ground is not the rock I thought it to be" as being forced to reevaluate your values, or beliefs, in the face of irrefutable evidence that you've been incorrect. The song, imo, is kind of a metaphor for the beginning of a spirtual awakening, or cleansing. Definitely written when there was still a lot of anger to work out. Maynard seems a bit more at peace spiritually now.

The levels and layers the lines "I was wrong/This changes everything" are really striking at me, right now.

I thought about the possibility of being in Ur-Base killing Ur-dudes when I was on my way into the theater on November 27th in Berkeley, CA to watch Happy Feet.

The song reminds me of the state of the Abyss; thinking you've made it, then watching everything come crashing down as you actually see how far you have to go, but also the truth of how far you've come. It's not just despair at broken illusion, it's also astonishment and relief at Knowing.

I meant to reply to this days ago. I think that was one of the nights I was doped up on NyQuil. Sorry, love.

Yeah, that's definately a part of it. The sense that know you Know what it takes, no illusions, no misconceptions. "This Changes Everything."
