Or think of it this way:
Aug. 1st, 2006 12:57 pmIf I throw a ball in a measured way, with measured force, then I can know where it will go, and what it will do, with a certain (high) degree of probability. If, however, there are a few unknown macroscopic irregularities on the ball's surface, then my knowledge probaility goes down.
Now say it his one of the irregularities. It bounces wild, and crashes into a China cabinet, where, if it hits a certain way, it will pop the ball. But if it hits another way, the ball continues its destructive bounce. I know, now the measurements it would take to make to ball behave a certain way, because I know less about how the ball is going to behave. My total information remains the same, but the context in which I can apply it shifts.
If we can constantly shift back and forth between the areas of information, entropy, and measurement, we can apply our knowledge and increase our over-all conception, in a never-ending stream.
However, the more we do this, the more we expand the universe, the more there is to know.
I keep having dreams about having to hurt or kill people, and
mech_angel says I was making growly noises, in my sleep, last night...
I don't know what's up with that.
