LUXT - [Inside]--- "To suppose": to think, to posit, to predict. "Supposed To": Predicted to.

LUXT - [Kashmir (Led Zepplin Cover)]--- We have taken a form of prediction, based upon known and relavent facts, to mean That Which Is Meant To Happen. The Seemingly Inevitable Thing. When something goes wrong, we ask "Is it supposed to do that?" Meaning, "Is that the way this is meant to go?" or "Is this what is proper and right?" It's a funny thing to realise that we, as a society, have taken a piece of our nomenclature from the status of prescience, and prediction (a bit better [or worse] than prophecy, depending on your standards), to the status of fate. Determinacy. Is it supposed to? Did we predict that that would happen? Heh... Like that means a lot, in the face of what wants to happen.

Saw "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children," today (Thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] beard. Yar). It was without subtitles, or dubbing, and was still one of the prettiest, most ass-kicking pieces of animation I've seen in a damned long time. The fight scenes were amazing. Sephiroth was wonderfully done. I can't wait until i can more than intuitively understand the plot (I don't know Japanese, yet).

Johnny Cash - [Hurt (NIN Cover)]--- Re-signed the lease. Not the best of situations, but... It is what it is.

Now, however, I'm tired, and I want to go to bed.

Bastach. Sephi is my Bishy bitch, damn it. Must see.

As for Suppose and Supposed To. Its an odd linguistic thing, really. For a long time, my brain made Supposed To another word, which i mentally spelled Suppos't which (worled, i typo here) worked much better in my book.
Yes, the verb form of suppose as in the derivation from Supposition of being is weirdly different from how we use it now in most comtexts. "Is it Supposed To Do THAT" does however imply that the outcome is unexpected, or that some other outcome was more expected. We suppose it will do something, and it does something else, leading to our question of supposition.

(and if you cant tell, I'm WAY down in language geek mode atm)

True. Here's hoping.

I loved that movie. Insanity seems to run in that family, in some form, or another. At least, in most instances, it's beneficial. ^_^

My point, exactly. We take our prediction, our supposition, and turn it into expecation. That just seems a little weird, to me.

Come over, we're more than willing to watch the movie again.
