Seething contempt, again, as well as bewilderment, at the need to label everything. My newest vitrolic subject is the food world. Why? Why do people feel the need to celebratise Wolfgang Puck, and Emeril Lagasse? They may have been good chefs, once, amazing chefs, even (i know for a fact that Wolfgang was the man, when it came down to it), but they have fallen into the realm of those who show, flash, and finish, not Do, Eat, and Prepare. They discuss dishes with intricate components, and expensive ingredients, as if they could be found in any corner market, and only play to cowds looking to impress. They don't teach and cook, anymore, they pander.

Now, there is a word, in my mind, and i'm trying to think whether to denounce it, or use it in a derissive manner, from now on. The word is "Foodies." Recently, this word has come to be used about and by people who, supposedly, take better care in chosing their food products, and pay attention to the types of foods that are chic, and in fashion. Now, these practices of watching trends annoy me, no matter the field; food, clothes, literature, art, whatever: if you're doing it, solely because it's supposed to be cool, you make me sick. Well, you do that anyway, most likely, but whatever. ^_^ Try to try it, because You might like it, and to fuckery everyone else. Anyway, back to topic.

The term "Foodie" has been cropping up a lot, and i think that i hate it, and that i want to spew it at people, with venom and hate. It holds a certain pretention, to me, a certain "I'm better than you, because i can select a passable camembert, and a decent cooking wine" feel. Food is food is food, when it comes down to it. It is there to nourish you, and continue your pitiful existence, and, if you can manage it, to taste good, and look presentable. The better the quality of food, the better it will taste, and the better it is For you. Simple. Why does there need to be a term, for that, and why does that term have to be applied to people who are simply looking for good food?

If i remain informed, about my food, and know how to deglaze a lamb sauce, with rosemary and capers, why does that necessitate that i be called a "foodie?" Why can't i simply like food that tastes good, and want a better quality of life, all around? But, then, i tend to find all labeling pretention. No matter the group, if you identify with the Header Term, and start to speak of yourself, inthat way, in capital letter ("Writer", "Goth", "Raver", "Whatever"), then you move dangerously close to the land of the talkers-not-doers. People who call themselves a thing, and don't live the ideals. There is, of course, the ironic, to be considered, but i think that can go without saying, for now...

Why pull a label to yourself, with all sorts of bogus responsibilities to others, attached? Just be yourself, whatever that entails.

Man, i rant about the weirdest shit, don't i? ;) Later.

Mrf. I've never heard of it used as that before. I simply used it to refer to someone who likes food a lot. :)

Like all labels, it's coming to be narrowed down, and broadened, all at once. Re and Defined. Holds more meaning of "people who know what's hip, in the food world," now.
