MC Chris - McChrisownz--- Because of Warren Ellis, i'm thinking and speaking in a slight British accent. This is going to be my Dragon con report. There will be a lot of shit, here, a lot of it fannish, and i'll put it behind a cut, to be nice. If you don't want to read it, don't. But it was an amazing weekend. Certain things will be in daily order, and others will be in a list, afterward. This... Is going to take a while.

Friday: I got into DragonCon, on Friday evening, immediately, as soon as i rode up to the hotel, running into someone i hadn't seen in a long time: Merrill. That set the tone of happy accidents, for the weekend, as we will soon see.

After getting settled in to the hotel, [livejournal.com profile] drstrangeal, Bob, Parson, Anje, Kathryn and I all split up, to find people, and get a feel for what was what. (MC Chris - Badass). I went to Voltaire's table, around this point, and got my free "Cthul-Aid" shirts: one for me, one for [livejournal.com profile] raoin, one for Partick, and one for [livejournal.com profile] comorbid. The Original Inceptors. It was really good to see everyone, and i found out that i knew a lot more people at the con. That list comes later.

At some point, in here, i put on my "Cthul-Aid" shirt, and went a-wandering. I got in touch with [livejournal.com profile] reannaremick and find out more about the "Firefly" kids, and the suprise party that was in the works, for Matt Anderson, Jewel Staite's husband. We worked out dinner, and i met a couple of other people, whose names i don't remember, at the moment. (MC Chris - Tractorbeam). We worked out that it was time to try and see more people, and [livejournal.com profile] reannaremick called Jewel, to find out about the party. More things, happened, in here, and i ran into many more people. We went to the con suite, to wait for Adam Baldwin to show up, and then go tot the party. He didn't show, so we left. Then we went to the party, waited a while, for them to get back from Improv, at Dad's Garage. (MC Chris - Robotdog). Matt, Jewel and Nathan Fillian knocked on the door, and we surprised the shit out of Matt. He went nuts, and was ecstatic. Then i gave him his birthday present.

M C Chris - Evergreen--- I say to Matt, "Since it's your birthday, i'll give you the best drink you've Ever tasted," and i hand him the bottle of Cthulade. He fell in love with it, instantly, and beged me to make more. Jewel tried some, to the same effect. I wanted Nathan to try some, but he had left, by the time i got back, with more. (MC Chris - Toothpickspliffs). Also, Adam Baldwin had come and gone, by that time. He had also shown up, in the Con Suite, right after we had left. But ah well. I made a pretty lasting impression on Matt and Jewel, and i like to think that their time, here, was enhanced, by my presence and drink.

MC Chris - Ratz--- After that, Parson, [livejournal.com profile] reannaremick, and i left the party, around when Matt and Jewel left, to go tor bed. We met up with [livejournal.com profile] kyrael, and moved down to the Hyatt bar, for a while, decompressing... I barely remember this, at all. We dithered, in the bar, for another hour or so, and then we all went to our respective rooms, to sleep. The day ended at about 4am.

Saturday: I woke up, at around 11.17am, and realised that i wasn't making it to the Firefly panel, or the Adult Swim panel. That's when i rolled back over, and went back to sleep. When i got up, at about 12-something, Bob and I went to get some breakfast, and coffee. This was a good plan, as i was very hungry. At this point, i was wearing my shirt that says "Oh Crap. You're going to try and cheer me up, aren't you?" I got a lot of comments on that shirt, and had to inform them, of course, that my mother gave me that shirt, as well as the Invader Zim "Doom Song" shirt. Any way. Wandering around, happened more, and i ran into many more people. Talked with them, at great lengths, and enjoyed their company.

2.30pm was a Voltaire live show, that got moved around, like mad. Standard fair. Good, show.

At 4pm, i went to [livejournal.com profile] mistersleepless' panel, about himself, and asked him strange questions, such as "Do you find it better not to read fiction, when you're writing," and "Do you like any film Noir, and, if so, what are your favourites," because i'm a strange person, and i like to know these things (i'd like to knwo them from you, as well.). After that, i met him, shook his hand, helped a bunch of us arranged to meet up with him, at the bar, at around 9pm, and made him try the Cthulade. He had the standard vile staring and "What the hell is that?!" before he tried it, but then he had some, and was Very pleased with it. Well, enough that he didn't flee, to vomit, at any rate. I then went on my merry little way, happy as a damned clam.

Went to the "Nuts and Bolts of Producing a Webcomic" panel, with Pete Abrams, and Jennie, among others, whose names i can't remember. Asked the Scott McCloud question of "Are webcomics phasing out print?" and fueled a semi-heated debate, about the nature of the comics market, today. After that, hung out with Jennie, some more, and then killed time until 9pm.

I meet up with [livejournal.com profile] karishi, [livejournal.com profile] beard, [livejournal.com profile] electroncat, and some other people, about 7, or 8-ish, and wandered. Soon after this, [livejournal.com profile] mech_angel called me. I talked to her, for a very long time, until she told me to go drink, with Warren, and i did. We met up with [livejournal.com profile] reannaremick, and some others, who were already at the bar, and i bought Warren a Jäger, for [livejournal.com profile] mech_angel. He didn't trust it, and said it smelled different, from what he got, in England. Liquor travels strangely, apparently. But, i raised the bottle of what was, at this point, Azathoth Cooler (Two flavours of Cthulade, and one of Call of Cthulade, blended), and toasted with him. We all then sat, and talked about general bull shit, and the crowd got seriously oppressive, at one point. I asked him to sign my copy of "Transmetropolitan: Spider's Thrash," in the title issue, on the picture of the sphere of fire engulfing a neighbourhood blook, and this was about when several of us (me, [livejournal.com profile] beard, Bob, and [livejournal.com profile] drstrangeal) decided to head downstairs, to NeedCoffee.com's Gonzo Movie Film Festival.

Thety showed a whole bunch of crazy shit, in there, like King Vitaman cereal commercials, old Cap'n Cunch commercials, the first episode of Seasame Street. All of which we ridiculed mercilessly. It was awesome. Billy West was there, and MC Chris showed up, later, just before the intermission. I talked to him, and bought a cd, from him, which he signed "Your the Devil's Son!" He seemed like a pretty cool guy, with a slightly low self-image.

At the intermission, they did trivia. They were giving awaay boxed sets of things, andvarious DVDs, and toys.... And then they got to something, and i saw it in Widgett's hand. It was all black, with a metalic red logo, with the letters "NERV." My hand instantly shot up, and i said "I'll do it. I don't care what it is, or what i have to answer, i'll do it." Widge handed the question over to some woman who was, apparently, their Anime Mistress, and she decided to give us an easy one: "Whose artwork inspired Vampire Hunter D?" My arm nearly flew out of my socket, and no one else was faster. Widge pointed at me, and i said "Yoshitaka Amano." And he silently handed me the "Boxed Set of Neon Genesis Evangelion." I ran, back to the hotel room, to put it away, being stopped, along the way, by the Anime Mistress, who wanted to congratulate me, on my win. Only three other hands had even gone up, at the question. Decimation.

On the way, running back to the hotel, i missed Adam Baldwin, again, and snagged several other people, to tell them all what had just happened. I figured the ways in which i missed Adam, if we had met, we'd have probably had to fight to the death, or something, so it's better this way. Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] drstrangeal and I went back over to the movie festival, by way of the bar. Spent some more time with Warren, and the Holy Slut Army, until they kicked us out of the bar, at 2.30, or so.

We went back down, to the movie room, watched some more stuff, intermission came, again, and Billy West was back. I wanted to talk to him, so i did, and i bought his CD. [livejournal.com profile] drstrangeal convinced him to try to get me to let hi keep the change, by wowing me. So Billy West impersonated Hurricane Frances. Noises like that should not be able to come out of a human being. He walked over to doors, and rattled them, and tossed things around. I was wowed. But i said "...Yeah, but can you do any other weather? How about a light snowfall? maybe a summer shower?" He laughed, and gave me my change. He is an utterly awesome human being.

More rounds made, and more people seen. We wandered up to Voltaire's table, and hung out with Kitten, and killed time, and talked to people, until about 5am, at which time, it was time for Sleep. Sleep happened.

Sunday: Woke up at 11.45am, the first time, went back to sleep, and then up at 12, to get showered, and dressed, so i can go to Warren's 1pm panel, in the British track. Me and [livejournal.com profile] drstrangeal headed over there, and i asked one question ("How much research did you do for the issue 'There Is a Reason'?" To which he said, "Oh you mean the 'Mad Bastard' issue?") because i was out of them, and tired. He told a funny story about Patrick Steward doing his damnedest not to head butt Prince Charles, like Spider Jerusalem would have. After the panel, we headed over to the Hyatt bar, again, and i met [livejournal.com profile] thenowhere, and many other members of the Army. Much smaller crowd, this time, more personal, and Patrick Stewart text messaged Warren, telling him to tell us hi. We were all amused.

After that, [livejournal.com profile] drstrangeal and i went to Voltaire's table, again, and picked up some CDs, and i got a copy of "What Is Goth?". Then we went to Mick's, after searching for the Quizno's, for what felt like an hour, but was probably more akin to 20 minutes. It was then found to be closed. So Mick's it was, and service was slow and slightly rude. Food was good, though. Back in the room, people were crashed out, and i was killing time, until Caitlín Kiernan's reading, at 5.30. So i read, and listened to music, until my CD player's batteries died, then i went over to Caitlín's reading.

Caitlín Kiernan dressed as Chiana, from "Farscape," for Dragon Con. She read a story, that hasn't yet been published, about The Green Faerie, Absinthe, Death, and Faerie. It was amazingly good. I talked with her, after the reading, about Low Red Moon, and, it turns out, someone had emailed her about Threshold, doing the same thing to them as LRM did to me. We found that kind of spooky, and interesting. I bought a CD, from her, called "Nyarlathotep: Our Thoughts Make Spirals In The World. Inspired by the Works of Caitlín R. Kiernan." I Had to buy it. I got my picture taken with Caitlín, and then went to kill time, at Voltaire's table, before a radio show/play, starring Jewel and Matt. Matt was hilarious, and Jewel's piece was more serious. Talked to them, a bit, after ther play, and got my pictures, with them. Then i went to kill time, again, at Voltaire's table.

Side note, i bought a camera at some point, Saturday night, to take some con pictures, because i promised i would. And i did. Me with other people, and so on. Warren, Jewel, Matt, some Cenobites, and a bunch of other crap you'll see, when i get the film developed, soon, eh?

I ended up selling things, at Voltaire's table, for hours, and eating his food, and drinking is booze, because Audrey wanted to reward me, somehow. [livejournal.com profile] fuzzybastard came by and helped me futher corrupt the staff, with Kittelsol. I'd already made all of them have some Cthulade, and they had their own Apple Pie. All three were combined, in the Azathoth Cooler. It tastes Really good. Kitten and i had fun drinking and selling. Then there were weird scheduling things, and Faith and the Muse went on an hour late, and their sound was still sketchy, after the delay, because of some equipment issue. Voltaire was late, and everything got Delayed, and i was continually called, about the Panel Without a Purpose.

Monday: It went from 2am, to 8.30 am, Today. It was a success, again, and people still look to us as their late-night entertainment providers. People want us to branch off to Saturday and Sunday night Panels, next year. Delicious. The Panel rocked. I mixed Cthulade and Coffee (sans milk). Still a horible-tasting, vile thing. A couple of places were i walked out, because i wasn't enjoying the conversation, but i always came back, to show my dedication. To sparkle motion... *ahem* Moving on, affter this, was fidning something to do, for an hour, while waiting on Warren's last panel, in the Brtish Media track. For me that was wandering around the Hyatt and the Marriot, slowly, and killing time.

The last panel of Warren's was fairly well empty. There were about 15 people. Quite possibly because it was 10 in the fucking morning, at Dragon Con. We ended the thing at about 10.37, and headed to the outside to smoke. More talking, and information-sharring. I felt like some kind of diplomat, of something. Don't mind me, i'm delierious with sleeplessness. I'm hallucinating giant teady bears, the colour of my rug, ever so slowly sneaking up to pounce on my face... Anyway... That was good. Then came more wandering, with Bob, killing time, and waiting to check out. In our wanderings, we came across Jennie, and said goodbye, went back to the rooms, and packed up, and everyone else wasn't quite Ready yet. We were done in minutes.

We left, got on elevators, i saw Warren, and his PA, Raven, again, said bye, and left. Saw Tom Savini, on the way out of the motor lobby.

People i saw, who've not yet been mentioned, In No Particular order: [livejournal.com profile] fushi, [livejournal.com profile] ladylabyrinth, [livejournal.com profile] the_yellow_king, [livejournal.com profile] kellinator, [livejournal.com profile] adamdoochin, [livejournal.com profile] bakeneko, Duby, [livejournal.com profile] atlqueenrai, [livejournal.com profile] kitsuchan, [livejournal.com profile] ellenore who was on the panel again this year, [livejournal.com profile] jessicarabbitt, [livejournal.com profile] rogerrabbitt, [livejournal.com profile] lupusfeuer, Nicole from R Thomas, Jessica from CrüxShadows, Leyla, Mellisa, [livejournal.com profile] paosparti, Roki, a baby named Damien who was terribly cute, Kristy, [livejournal.com profile] halleyside, [livejournal.com profile] saxshooter, [livejournal.com profile] theone01, [livejournal.com profile] stellarshifting, [livejournal.com profile] wacko1138, Tina, Sam, Misty, Jay, [livejournal.com profile] 000100010001, [livejournal.com profile] shar_katye, Aileen, Jon, Sparky, Zachary, [livejournal.com profile] vampedvixen, and that's all of you i can think of, right now. If i missed any of you, i'm sorry. I also heard from [livejournal.com profile] momentai, on the phone. *nods*

Met some really fantastic people. Got a bunch of kick ass stuf, and a bunch of it signed. All of it was utterly amazing.

Here are the Missed Horror Scopes, fromt he weekend: 09/04/04: This is a good day to soak in the positive energies of other people, WOLVEN. You might just want to relax at home and spend some time with your family. Or you could decide to take a trip to see loved ones who live out of town. Overall, you will enjoy connecting with people from your "tribe" who care about and understand the real you. You might need some nurturing right now to help you to unwind.

09/05/04: This is a good day for spending time outdoors, WOLVEN. You'll feel better if you can connect with Mother Earth. Even if the weather isn't great, you'll want to go for a walk. If you tend to sit down all day at your work, you probably need to boost your circulation. Go outside and get moving. Make sure that blood is pumping throughout your whole body.

09/06/04: Try not to get carried away today, WOLVEN. Any tendency you may have toward pleasure seeking will be greatly magnified by today's planetary aspects, until overindulgence becomes a real risk. That relaxing drink with pals could turn into a $50 happy hour bill, and that short afternoon nap might last until dinnertime. Don't be afraid to treat yourself; just be aware of the possibility that it can get out of hand if you're not careful.

Now tell me, again, astrology don't apply. ;)

That's it. That's the end. Go the fuck home.

Yeah, even Warren looked like he wanted to simply die. Probably better that we adjourned early, and went out side, so he could recharge his nicotine cells.

Here's hoping.

I try not to read fiction if I writing anything I care about b/c there is the chance I will be discouarged. Maybe by the author's technique, the subject matter, or simply their wealth of talent compared to mine. And by the 1st 2 I mean that I am discouraged b/c they will be too similar to mine. For instance, I stared re-reading Ender's Game this morning and the introduction totally turned me off b/c it reminded me how out of touch I am with people. Another example is beginng Eye of the Dragon and realizing I hadn't created the idea of 1st Person Omniscient story telling.

As for film noir, I don't remember what that means exactly. I just like movies for what they are. I don't study them like Seth or a critic would.

I've always tried to be of the mindset "If you have a story to tell, tell it, no matter what, in your own voice, etc." Just write it. Who cares if you didn't do it "first"? Just do it.

Film noir is a film style. Litteraly "Film Black," from the French. Darker, griuttier films. Detective stories, characterised by voice overs, and hard-luck cases. Anything written by Raymond Chandler, turned into a movie, is Noir.
