Portishead - Seven Months--- When i consider what it means to me to divine something, to be divine, what divinity is, to me, i'm struck by... well, the things themselves. Not only in my personal meanings, but in the standard meanings, from which they draw, there is an interplay of definition. The divine, meaning a "Higher power," or source from which things are drawn. Well spirng, hence "Divining Rod." Then there is to divine, to understand options, from a hidden source. (Portishead - Roads (Live)). To draw from said spring, or to find it, in the first place. These things are standard, coming from simple pratices of finding good fresh water, where it was important to do so.
I understand divinity as, yes, a Source, but also as something in the base nature of every thing and nothing. Infinity, through windows, again. Therefore, with this understanding of divinity, you are, when you divine something, only calling on yourself, and telling yourself something that you already know. Now, many people will say, "well, yes, it's simply wrapping it up in a manner that people can see, from outside, and accept, but they already knew what it was telling them." That's fine, however people generally mean this in the, "it was already in the self-consciousness, of the person asking the question" way. I want to amend that to say that it's what's in the Infinite consciousness of what every person is, at their core. Every thing is divine.
Portishead - Over--- You place bits of yourself in different places, to provide a perspective, for your view, so that you may act, in the world, and ask questions of who and what you are, and motivations, etc. You create a self that you may "Find yourself." Then, you work back toward that infinity, from the vantage point, retaining that, as an individual, because without the You That Is, infinity is not. So you ask yourself questions, in this way, and that works out well, for the most part, because, often, you receive answers.
Portishead - Humming (Live)--- There are, of course, asking "Other Sources," but, in a way, you're still using part of you, that matches there, to get to that point. You use your own voice, or fingers, or, more to the point, mind, to use the telephone, and the same principle applies. You're already connected, you simply need to apprehend and-- in a non-poorly connotative way-- exploit that connection.
That's, of course, how i feel on the subject. Those of you who divine things, one way or another (tarot, runes, dowsing, winamp, I Ching, other coins, whatever), how do you perceive and conceive of what you do? Or do you?
I'm going to go watch television, now.
