Endeavour and Ever.
Oct. 7th, 2003 02:11 pmA Perfect Circle - [Vanishing]--- The gouge is beginning to heal. protective layer over the dermis, and all that. Showered without a bandage on it. Going to let it air. Healing should happen quickly.
Listening to the new APC album, obviously, and to answer your question, i can see how it could be seen as "Typical College Rock..." if it were anyone but this band. I'm not saying that, because of who they are, they are inherently Great-- i'm not that fanatical-- i'm simply saying that the talent and synthesis that this bad Has allows the works they produce to be actually powerful, actually touching, whereas a different band, performing the same songs and music, would not have near the effect. (A Perfect Circle - [A Stranger]). A Perfect Circle has a haunting quality, a melodic ability to wind it's way into your mind and emotional state. Even when you don't really want it to.
There's something to be said, i think, about Genre typing. Because this, in all actuality, could be seen as "Emo," for "Our Set," if you get my meaning. (A Perfect Circle - [The Outsider]). No? Let me explain, then. The "kinds" of people who enjoy APC, Tool, Trent-- The More Industrialised Set, as a whole, really-- are not exactly going to be up for the kind of whining seen in today's "Emo" bands. There is a demand for a different class of venting. The kind that says, yes, i've been hurt by the world, and Yes i've been downtrod, and yeah my girlfriend left me, and yeah life sucks... So where did i put that flame thrower? A class of Rage, i think. A Kind of Determination.
A Perfect Circle - [Crimes]--- I hate casting people into types and Genres, as a whole, because everyone is different, no matter what common threads bring them together. Not all Emo Kids are whiny, and not all Industrial Leaners are hardcore to the point of always wanting to or knowing How To solve their problems. There are many crossed categories, always, because people are complex. Generalisations, no matter how useful, are always faulty. But, if i had to make a generalisation about the whole thing, that would be it.
I'm out, to do that other stuff i said i'd do today, including eat.
{Addendum: Two Minutes Later: A Perfect Circle - [Pet]--- Gah! Holy Shit! This song is Amazing! I mean... "On listening to this song, i remember that there are always genres crossed, even within the music. Nothing can be completely typified.}
