Uhm... Yes.
Feb. 1st, 2002 01:04 amSo, here i am. Living my life. i don't really have much to say... No.. i lied. i remembered why i wanted to post on my LJ today... Good. Anyway... Here's this. It's my thoughts on majik and science. And stuff.
i don't know how many of you, out there, would consider yourself Magicians. i'm not talking about Rabbit out of the hat, flowers up the sleeve, hidden door with a crate of doves in it, magicians. i'm talking reshaping reality to conform to your will, and knowing how to do it without destroying the fabric of said reality. There's a quote from a Clive Barker book which was:
"'I'm an illusionist, not a Magician.'
"'What's the difference?'
"'Magicians do it for real.'"
When dealing with things like Majik, you have to understand the saying "A sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." This can be basically seen as saying that-- to offend the Techies, and the Normals-- science is a less advanced form of magic. If you want to look at in a different context, Magic is simply a more highly advanced form of science. Funny thing about that is, it says exactly the same thing, either way, but the first one is likely to piss off your Hard Core scientist. But i digress.
They are two sides of one of your coins, magic and science. You need the one to A) compliment the other and B) remind the other of its limitations and Abilities. Without Science, Majik would forget that the natural world-- the world in which we live-- has certain disablities, and limitations. Without Majik, science would forget that these limitations are Guidelines that can be bent, and broken-- if the user's willing to suffer whatever consequences that may bring.
They are not mutually exclusive things. One acts upon, uses, and needs the other, in order to make any sense, have any potential. It's like Titania said about Fantasy and Reality... only different. Good Nyte.
Dream Well

Nice...
Date: 2002-02-01 05:08 am (UTC)"Majik"..... like giving chicken soup for a cold, self-hypnosis for pain management, aromatherapy, chiropractics
all stuff that was considered "lunatic fringe" until recently.....
Science marches on to the beat of liberal/progressives trying to outmaneuvre the conservatives in order to "prove" what Majik has been whispering for 100s of years.
