So that was Really Stupid.

10+ hours sitting in the pre-selection area, just waiting, with no word as to a time-frame, and with only sporadic breaks and Vending Machines. To be fair, we got a lunch, but I'd eaten on the break two hours prior, because I hadn't had time for breakfast.

And then I get sent home. Never brought to a courtroom. Just me and four other people, at the end of the day.

I am tired, and very hungry, and kind of pissed.

I was actually kind of looking forward to this. I've never had jury duty before. If I had been selected, the whole day would have been interesting, but you know something? The "Interesting" quotient of sitting in the pre-selection room runs out after the 4th hour of the Same Damn Nothing.

They kept holding us over, asking a group for conflicts with specific companies, letting the "yes" people go, holding us over, calling out a list of names, letting those people go, asking for those same previous conflicts from a DIFFERENT list of names, letting the "yeses" go, then they called out another group of 15 names. Mine included.

Everyone BUT that group go to leave.

That was at 3.30 or so. They whittled down a few more, and then, eventually, almost three hours later, they told us they wouldn't need us.

I know that everyone's doing what they can, and I'm sure there's a bunch of crazy crap going on upstairs in the courtroom that we don't know about, but hours-long stretches of time with no information or a sense of scale? Yeah, you're going to make me hate something I was kind of looking forward to.

And yes, I get paid, and if it were in any way about the money, I'd still say "$15/10hrs does not a compensatory rate make."

So Annoying.

Luckily, DeKalb county is on a "One Trial Or One Day" system, so I'm done for at least another 18 months.
