wolven7: (The Very Devil)
So I had a full 20oz bottle of Pepsi Throwback (still a terrible name), tonight. This, in itself is something of a micacle, as I haven't been able to drink a full 20oz bottle of any soda-- even my beloved Dr Pepper-- in years. I always feel over-sugared, about 2/3rds of the way through, and end up letting it just sit there, getting warmer and less drinkable.

This experience was completely different.

Before we go any further, let me say that I was born and raised in DC, not 5 miles from a Pepsi Bottling Plant. If you've played Fallout 3, you may know it as the "Nuka Cola Bottling Plant." Yeah. That one. Anyway, this means that, from birth (and a bit before that), I have been drinking Pepsi. When I moved south, that changed, and I started drinking Coke, because it was plentiful and cheap. Eventually, Pepsi didn't have the same taste and allure, as it used to. Too sickly sweet, too cloying. The same thing has started to happen to Coke, honestly. And now I know why.

Pepsi Throwback is made with real cane sugar, rather than high Fructose Corn Syrup. It's taste is lighter, cleaner, more "Cola" than "Sugar," and I finished the whole damn bottle before it even had time to Start warming up. It doesn't coat the back of my throat, my teeth, and my tongue, like Coke and Pepsi do, and it was delicious. The caffeine and sugar content are the same as a "reegular" bottle of Pepsi, mind you, it's just cane sugar, rather than HFCS.

This will only be on the shelves for another two weeks, so you need to get some while the getting is good, and, while this is sacrilege, in Atlanta, I have to say, the best place to get some is the Kroger. The price I paid for this now-empty 20oz bottle? 79 Cents.

By the way, you can patch this review in for the Kosher Coke I drank, during Passover, as well. The properties were almost identical, except it tased like Coke, rather than Pepsi.

I swear, if/when they start making Dr Pepper with cane sugar, again, I am royally Screwed.
