This is Bullshit. We've been capable of meeting higher fuel efficiency standards than that for Fifteen Years. Do you know why we don't?
Lemme paint you a little picture; tell you a cute story: Over here we have Built-In Obsolescence. Over Here we have profit margins increased by oil partnerships. When we put them together they make a HORRIBLE BABY called "The Operating Procedures of an Unsustainable Auto Industry." These procedures are the little voices in the heads of the auto executives that say "Don't worry about diversification! Those are unproven technologies!" Instead of saying "If we invest the money and advertising, people will buy these things, and they'll Love us for them.
"Then we can make money on manufacturing the patents we hold, so that everyone eles can do it too."
See? Then the game becomes about actual progress and making a better, more fuel-efficient, clean, "green," i'll say it again Better product, rather than intentionally holding ourselves back, so we don't have to take risks, and then crying to mommy Pelosi and Daddy Reid, when we don't have any fun.

Lower your costs to the consumers. Stop trying to convince us that fuel efficiency is hard to do. Make Good, Affordable Products, and for fuck's sake, Stop with the five private jets and multi-billion-dollar executive pay packages!
There are people who see a culture war, a class war, and a war for our very right and ability to survive on this planet (and maybe others), just over the horizon.
And I'm beginning to think that, not only are they right, but maybe they're the same damn war.
