If there were to be, tomorrow, a statement sent around the world that all children of prostitutes, addicts, and minimum wage workers were to receive substandard care, schooling, and overall benefits, what would that do to your pale, frail, fragile little mind? Would you be outraged? Would you shrug and wander off, continuing about your daily lives, as if nothing had happened, and nothing had gone wrong? What if the statement also said, by way of explaining itself. "I mean... why should we spend money on the kids of whores, junkies, and slackers?" Would you accept it, reject it, or scream, till your throat was raw?

Answer now, because you may not get anther chance. Today, look at the areas of town which may not seem so nice. Look at the poverty and the shame, and the state of living where, to survive, you may have to do some very unpleasant things. Look at these areas and realise that there are children there, receiving a level of care that would make you feel less than human, were you to live it. They Do live it, though, and some of them turn out well. Some of them go on to succeed, on a national level, in various fields and realms. But for every one that succeeds, there are 5 more who wind up in prison, for cumulatively over half of their lives. And they didn't receive a level of cash, of substance, of provisions, benefits, and considerations, that the upper, or even middle classed children get. Because, "I mean... Why should we spend money on the kids of whores, junkies, and slackers?"

Right?

I'm not saying that these kids will all grow up to be wonderful human beings, if you give them a little more support, but i am saying that they'll have a better chance of it. Nature, Nurture, and understanding. If you treat people like they aren't worth a shit, then you eventually get them to believe it. They start acting like they aren't worth shit, and then, you wonder why crime rates go up, and why shit like drug use is on the rise. Don't be surprised. "There is a reason."

Treat people like they're worth a damn, no matter where they come from, and maybe we'll be able to cut some of this shit back. Otherwise, start from the ground up.

And if you can't do that, might as well Jump.

Back later.

oh come on, what's more american than refusing to care about the unfortunates of society? I mean, if we even wanted to take care of these "slackers" who can't get jobs we'd have to pay more taxes, and frankly, I like my money just where it is> in my pocket. so if you want to take my money away from me to help other people, you'll have to prie it from my cold dead fingers...damn commies. We put the knife to people like that..right? "Give me your poor, your weary...etc." useless drivel. After all, america is the pinnacle of western society...I think to myself as I drive down forsyth street.

Okay, if you donated to Bush's campaign - how much?
Or did you just rig the fucking Florida vote in 2000?

I'm a proud commie, you fascist pig. *smile*

Thank you so much. In addition to reminding me of something very important, you added perspective to my day.

I agree

It was a well-written and well-timed rant. Thanks.

If you want to talk about rigging votes listen to what happened to my girlfriend's roommate: the republican party called their house on election day with one of those lameass recording blitzes they love to do, the message basically told them that there was an error in the machines, and that if they selected a democratic candidate on the screen, it would really be selecting the republican candidate. Therefore it recommended that you vote the opposite way->for all the republicans on the ticket, because then the error would reverse itself and you'd really be voting for the democrats. Imagine all of the elderly and computer illiterate going into the polls actually believing this. It suddenly doesn't surprise me that the republicans won in Georgia.....though it does make me want to vomit.

It's true, though. It also happened in Florida. No matter what they pushed, it came up Jeb Bush. Disgusting.

Preach on sweetie. I love people who can get more worked up over social issues than me. It reminds me that some people care, or at least notice. *Hugs* Gonna go finish reading your lj's since I haven't been on in a while. Byes! -Sayer
