wolven7: (The Very Devil)

Chumbawamba - [Smalltown]--- Every day I wake up, in a situation where I should be happy, the kind of life I've been leading, the kind of things I can do, the people around me, but still, somewhere, in the back of my mind, I just keep thinking:

We can do better.

Luscious Jackson - [Mood Swing]--- Is that bad? Is that good? Is it just a thought?

Either way, it's Saturday. Saturn's Day. Satyr Day. Sedir Day. [Seder Day.]

Time for breakfast.

I'm like that. Part of me thinks that means I will never be happy unless I learn to change or temper that instinct. Part of me doesn't want to be happy if that's what it requires.

It's that kind of dichotomy that drives us, I guess, and causes tiny crises of conscience.

Settling isn't good, and there are things that can be improved. You can want to be better without never being satisfied.

a little saul in the morning, by way of response

Am I happy?

Happiness is a mediocre sin and for a middle class existence;
I see through smiles and smell truth in the distance.
Beyond one-dimensional smiles and laughter lies the hereafter...

Very true...

The day we no longer think "we can do better" is the day we've either achieved perfection, or just plain given up. Perfection, being impossible, leaves "given up" as the only realistic option.

I, for one, hope to never reach that day where "we can do better" doesn't come to mind.

I think that there's nothing wrong with striving for improvement. We will never be a utopia, so thinking that we can do better is never a bad thing. Because it's true.

Of course, you made me think of one of the lines from "I hope you dance"...
but aside from that, Happiness != Satisfaction. Being happy is a splendid enterprise, for its own sake. But until the veil is lifted, there's no reason to rest on our laurels.
(Damn, damn, damn... 10 days until I send this next game out.)
